Jets DE Carl Lawson suffered a ruptured Achilles on Thursday, ending his season.
The Jets also announced that S Zane Lewis is out for the season with a knee injury. Lawson – the Jets’ best pass-rusher – was reportedly having a fantastic offseason, making this especially heartbreaking for the 26-year-old. New York’s defense was already subpar on paper before this news. Without Lawson, they could be among the worst in the league. Lawson’s 2022 salary is fully guaranteed as part of the three-year, $45 million deal he signed with the Jets this offseason, but his release saves $15 million in 2023. He’ll be over a year removed from his injury when the 2022 season begins, and at 26, has youth on his side in recovering from one of the more devastating injuries in football.
