6hSatou Sabally accounted for 15 points (4-of-10 FGs, 3-of-3 FTs), six rebounds, three assists, one block and four three-pointers in Sunday’s exhibition loss to the Valkyries.

After playing 15 minutes in her Mercury preseason debut on May 6, Sabally logged 21 minutes on Sunday. The former Oregon standout shot 4-of-6 from beyond the arc against the Valkyries and was 6-of-11 for the preseason. Sabally made 45.2 percent of her 5.6 three-point attempts per game with the Wings last season. Add in the points, rebounds, assists and steals, and Sabally should be one of the better frontcourt players in fantasy basketball this season. Especially playing alongside Kahleah Copper and Alyssa Thomas.

6hAlyssa Thomas accumulated 15 points (5-of-9 FGs, 5-of-8 FTs), five rebounds and six assists in Sunday’s exhibition loss to the Valkyries.

After a quiet performance in her first exhibition game since joining the Mercury, Thomas was more productive in Sunday’s preseason finale. While the veteran forward did not record any defensive stats, the points, rebounds and assists were a reminder that she’ll be a consistent triple-double threat in her new home. Thomas will be a solid option for fantasy managers who miss out on an A’ja Wilson, Napheesa Collier or Breanna Stewart in drafts.

6hKahleah Copper (back) was held out of Sunday’s exhibition loss to the Valkyries.

Before Sunday’s game, Mercury coach Nate Tibbetts cited a desire to “be careful,” so Copper was held out of the team’s preseason finale. Along with Alyssa Thomas and Satou Sabally, the 6-foot-1 wing will be crucial for a franchise beginning a new era without Diana Taurasi (retirement) and Brittney Griner (Atlanta). Once guards like Caitlin Clark, Sabrina Ionescu and Arike Ogunbowale are off the board in fantasy drafts, Copper should be among those strongly considered for selection.

4dMercury waived Gs Shyla Heal and Anna Makurat.

Heal and Makurat saw action in Tuesday’s exhibition loss to the Aces, with the former playing eight minutes and the latter 10. Heal, a first-round pick of the Sky in 2021, has not appeared in an official WNBA game since that season. Makurat, who played two seasons at UConn before returning to Europe in 2021, most recently played professionally in Italy.

Having agreed to a training camp deal with the Mercury in February, Westbeld is fighting for a roster spot. A night like Tuesday may help her chances of making the final roster, as the former Notre Dame standout tied for the team lead in scoring. Mercury coach Nate Tibbetts took full advantage of the opportunity to evaluate his roster in a live game, with 16 players logging between eight and 16 minutes.

Even with the additions of Alyssa Thomas and Satou Sabally, Copper will have the room to be even more productive as a scorer in 2025 due to Diana Taurasi’s retirement. The Mercury wing averaged a career-best 21.1 points per game in 2024, shooting 43.5 percent from the field. Adding a triple-double threat in Thomas to the lineup may produce more “clean” looks for Copper, who provided limited production in Tuesday’s exhibition. She only played 15 minutes, so there should not be too much concern as the Mercury continue their preparations for the regular season.

After spending the first 10 seasons of her WNBA career with the Sun, Thomas was traded to the Mercury in February as part of a major roster rebuild in Phoenix. While she does not offer value as a three-point shooter, Thomas’s abilities as a playmaker and defender make her a valuable player to have rostered in fantasy leagues. The Mercury forward dropped a 5/5/5 line on Tuesday, and she recorded 14 double-doubles and three triple-doubles in 2024.

Sabally was one of Phoenix’s major acquisitions this offseason, as the front office revamped the roster even before Diana Taurasi announced her retirement. Sabally did a little bit of everything in her preseason debut. She only played 15 minutes, but that was due to head coach Nate Tibbetts substituting liberally (12 substitutions) during the first half. As long as Sabally remains healthy, she has the potential to offer excellent fantasy value in 2025.
