2dNatasha Howard scored the basketball efficiently during Saturday night’s 89-87 loss to the Sparks accumulating 21 points (8-of-11 FGs, 4-of-6 FTs), nine rebounds, three assists, one steal, two blocks and one three-pointer in 36 minutes of play.

Howard continues to shine following her MVP performance during the July 1 Commissioner’s Cup championship game. She shot 72.7% from the field on Saturday night, her second highest clip of the season. Howard was most effective ducking in on defenders and cutting to the basket off the catch. She made sure to get on the glass throughout the game, and was one board shy of a double-double. All three of her assists were on passes to Aliyah Boston, as the pair continues to develop their high-low chemistry.

2dAliyah Boston led the Fever with another efficient performance during Saturday night’s 89-87 loss to the Sparks contributing 23 points (9-of-17 FGs, 5-of-7 FTs), 12 rebounds, four assists, and two blocks in 32 minutes of play.

Once again Boston finished the game with over 20 points, her third in a row. While Boston’s first make of the game was a 15-foot jumper, her eight final field goals were all scored within five feet of the basket. Boston created effective seals, out muscling both Sparks posts Dearica Hamby and Azurá Stevens. While Caitlin Clark has been sidelined, Boston and Fever forward Natasha Howard have developed a high-low chemistry. All three of Howard’s assists went into Boston. Indiana struggled to get Boston good looks with the final 30 seconds of regulation with Indiana just trailing by a single point. She took and missed a 21-foot pullup with 2.4 seconds left, which wasn’t a high percentage shot for Indiana’s center.

On the heels of an MVP performance in the Fever’s Commissioner’s Cup Championship victory over the Lynx on Tuesday, Howard added another double-double to her collection on Thursday against the Aces. She played just 25 minutes due to the substantial lead Indiana had built over Las Vegas, which likely prevented the veteran forward from an even richer stat line. Still, she made contributions in several areas, helped her team to another win, and continues to impress in her 12th WNBA season. Howard will have an opportunity on Saturday against the Sparks to add to her streak of double-doubles.

Collier struggled significantly on the offensive end on Tuesday night. Her 33.0 percent shooting tied her most inefficient shooting performance of the season, and she finished with fewer than 15 points for just the second time this year. The 2024 MVP runner-up certainly felt the defensive impact of Natasha Howard and the rest of the Fever as a whole, as indicated by her season-high five turnovers. Collier also missed many makeable shots that had led her to average 24.4 points per game heading into the Commissioner’s Cup Championship. She’ll have a chance to bounce back on Thursday vs. Washington.

Howard entered the Commissioner’s Cup Championship on the heels of a greatly productive outing against the Wings and delivered another stellar performance against the Lynx on Tuesday. The veteran forward posted a second straight double-double and, once again, used active hands on defense to rack up steals. Howard’s line was good enough for her fourth double-double of the season and was nearly enough to set a new season-high in rebounds. Her efforts on both ends of the floor landed her the Commissioner’s Cup MVP and delivered a Caitlin Clark-less Indiana team a great victory.

Howard too was incredibly efficient for the Fever. She was given looks in situations she could exploit. She scored in transition and in pick-and-roll actions where she would get the ball in the paint or close to the rim. Howard too took advantage of Dallas’ less defensively savvy post players. In addition to her scoring, Howard’s rebounding was incredibly valuable to the Fever. Friday night’s win was her third double-digit rebounding game of the season.

10dKelsey Mitchell amassed an efficient 31 points (11-of-17 FGs, 6-of-8 FTs), three rebounds, seven assists, and four three-pointers in Friday night’s 94-86 win over the Wings in 34 minutes of play.

Mitchell scored a season high of 31 on Friday night, earning her eighth career 30 point game. She got to her spots with ease all night mixing up efficient shot making with getting down hill and putting pressure on the rim. When the Fever struggled to score during the Wings’ 11-3 run in the third quarter it was Mitchell that carried the Fever with her scoring moving off the ball to score the ball at the rim on assists from Aari McDonald and Aliyah Boston. After the Wings had their first lead of the game by a point with 5:29 left in the fourth quarter, Mitchell countered immediately with a wide open made three at the top of the key. And then a minute later Mitchell put away the Wings with an and-one and an assist to Natasha Howard to seal the game.

11dAliyah Boston added 12 points (4-of-13 FGs, 4-of-4 FTs), 10 rebounds, one assist and five steals in Thursday’s loss to the Sparks.

Boston’s scoring production took a bit of a hit on Thursday compared to her previous two games. She shot inefficiently from the field and scored three of her four made baskets in the first half. The former first-overall pick did make contributions elsewhere, however — she reached double figures in rebounds for the seventh time this season, and collected a season-high in steals. Boston still had a solid night of fantasy production, but more efficient shooting could lead to bigger and better performances going forward.

18dNatasha Howard accounted for 13 points (6-of-11 FGs, 1-of-1 FTs), five rebounds and two assists in Thursday’s loss to the Valkyries.

After scoring four points in Saturday’s win over the Liberty, Howard has tallied 29 on 11-of-19 shooting in her last two outings. Her performance against the Valkyries was one of the few positives for Indiana, which committed 16 turnovers on Thursday and was outscored by a 50-33 margin in the second half. Like frontcourt partner Aliyah Boston, Howard’s offensive impact was muted after halftime, contributing to the Fever losing a game it had led by as much as 13. Indiana ends its week with a game against the Aces on Sunday.

The Fever tallied their second-straight win as Howard’s big game helped propel them in the blowout. The double-double on Tuesday marked the veteran forward’s second over the last three games and was a nice response to a less-productive four-point, four-rebound outing in the Fever’s win over the Liberty on Saturday. With the win, Indiana punched its ticket to the Commissioner’s Cup Championship game. The team will welcome similar levels of production from Howard going forward.
