Yankees purchased the contract of catcher Wil Nieves from Triple-A Columbus.
The Yankees had a few choices, but Nieves is their pick to act as the third catcher this month. The 28-year-old hit .259/.298/.346 for Columbus.

Rockies signed C Wil Nieves to a minor league contract.
Nieves, 34, batted .140 in 50 at-bats with the Brewers this past season and has a .221/.268/.289 batting line over parts of eight seasons in the majors. He could contend for the backup catcher job during spring training.

Rockies placed C Wil Nieves on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 9, with turf toe on his right foot.
Nieves suffered the injury last week against the Nationals. Ramon Hernandez (hand) has been activated from the disabled list to take his place on the active roster.

Wil Nieves has joined the Rockies in Cincinnati.
No official word from the team yet, but this could be a sign that Ramon Hernandez is headed for the disabled list. The veteran backstop has been dealing with a nagging injury to his left hand for most of the season. Nieves would likely function as the primary backup to rookie Wilin Rosario if Hernandez indeed lands on the DL.

Rockies purchased the contract of C Wil Nieves from Triple-A Colorado Springs.
He’ll take the place of the injured Ramon Hernandez (hand) on the active roster and should split playing time with rookie Wilin Rosario in the short-term. Nieves, 34, owns a lousy .221/.268/.289 batting line in the big leagues and can be ignored in fantasy leagues.

Wil Nieves has elected free agency.
The Rockies designated Nieves for assignment earlier this month after he batted .298 (14-for-47) with a home run and five RBI in 16 games. Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports that the Diamondbacks are set to sign the .226 career hitter. With Henry Blanco (hand) likely headed to the disabled list, Nieves would back up Miguel Montero.

Diamondbacks claimed C Wil Nieves off waivers from the Rockies.
He’ll take the roster spot of Henry Blanco, who was placed on the disabled list. Nieves was recently designated for assignment by the Rockies after batting .298 (14-for-47) with a home run and five RBI in 16 games this season. The .226 career hitter will serve as a backup for Miguel Montero and has no fantasy value.

Miguel Montero is not in Wednesday’s lineup against the Reds.
He’s likely just getting the day off with the quick turnaround. Wil Nieves is starting behind the dish.

Rockies activated C Wil Nieves from the 15-day disabled list; designated him for assignment.
Nieves batted .298 (14-for-47) with a home run and five RBI in 16 games with the Rockies this season prior to hitting the disabled list in the early part of July with turf toe. He’s just a .226 hitter in the big leagues, but could draw interest from a catching-starved team.

Wil Nieves (toe) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Colorado Springs on Monday.
With the rumors swirling around that Ramon Hernandez may soon be traded, Nieves would likely assume the backup catcher’s role behind Wilin Rosario once he is healthy enough to return. He’ll return to an uninspiring .221/.268/.289 line through his first 47 at-bats.
