Hopper

Hopper (6'2"/228) has been in and out of the transfer portal over the last several weeks, but re-entered the portal earlier this week. Now, Matt Zenitz of On3.com is reporting that sources have shared with him that Hopper is expected to transfer to Missouri, where his cousin Tyrone transferred to earlier this year. Last season, Hopper recorded 62 tackles, two sacks and one forced fumble for the Gators per Pro Football Focus. Missouri’s defense struggled mightily in 2021, which would make Hopper, a former four-star recruit, a welcomed addition heading into 2022.

Hopper (6'2/228) had a cup of coffee in the transfer portal a few days ago, as he entered the portal only to quickly withdraw his name hours later. In 2021, Hopper totaled 62 tackles, 2 sacks and one forced fumble for the Gators per Pro Football Focus, and would be one of the better returning defensive players for head coach Billy Napier and the program. Now, Hopper appears to be locked into the portal and is receiving interest from Auburn and Missouri early on. Whether Hopper departs from Florida or returns is yet to be seen, but for now, he is in the portal in search of greener pastures.

Within the span of a few hours, Hopper (6'2/228) entered and exited the portal on Thursday. One of the better-returning defenders for the Gators, this is a big win for Billy Napier keeping him on the team for 2022. Hopper accumulated 62 tackles, 2.5 sacks, two yards, and one forced fumble this past season for the Gators.

Hopper picks the Gators over offers from schools like Alabama, Georgia Tech, Mississippi State and Miami. He’s rated the 22nd best outside linebacker by 247 Sports, and as the 32nd best player in the state of Georgia. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound linebacker will obviously need to put on some bulk, but reports indicate he can really rush the passer and move sideline-to-sideline. This is a potential impact player on the Florida defense.
