White Sox optioned RHP Jimmy Lambert to Triple-A Charlotte; reassigned LHPs Tanner Banks, Wes Benjamin, Brandon Finnegan and Andrew Pérez, RHPs Caleb Freeman, Tyler Johnson and Yacksel Ríos and OF Yoelqui Céspedes to minor league camp.
The second round of White Sox’ cuts includes some notable names as they have 42 players left in camp this spring. Céspedes made some serious noise in the Cactus League and appears to be on the precipice of making an impact in the big leagues, possibly as soon as later this season.

White Sox re-signed RHP Tyler Johnson to a minor league contract.
Johnson struggled to a 9.56 ERA in 16 appearances this past year between three different levels of the minor leagues, but he’s had success in the past and the White Sox will hope that he can return to form in 2022. The 26-year-old was a fifth-round pick in the 2017 MLB Draft out of the University of South Carolina.

Johnson was released by the White Sox last week to make room on the 40-man roster after the team made several moves at the trade deadline. The 25-year-old righty relief prospect will remain with the organization.

This move frees up a 40-man roster spot for Cesar Hernandez, who was acquired from the Indians on Thursday. Johnson, 25, had allowed 23 runs -- 17 earned -- over 16 innings of relief this season in the minors. He also recently underwent knee surgery.

He’s now on the 40-man roster. Johnson, 25, held a 2.59 ERA and 43/10 K/BB ratio over 31 1/3 innings across four levels in 2019.
