Guardians sent RHP Tyler Beede outright to Triple-A Columbus.
Beede went unclaimed on waivers after being designated for assignment last week by the Guardians after struggling to an inflated 8.36 ERA over 14 innings (13 appearances) in his first stint back in the majors since 2022. The 30-year-old righty will most likely wind up electing free agency.

Guardians designated RHP Tyler Beede for assignment.
The 30-year-old right-hander seemingly pitched himself out of a job on Thursday night, giving up five runs on three hits and a pair of walks while recording only one out against the Astros. Overall, he posted an 8.36 ERA, 1.79 WHIP and an 18/9 K/BB ratio over 14 innings with the Guardians. There’s a chance that another club could take a shot at him on waivers.

Guardians selected the contract of RHP Tyler Beede from Triple-A Columbus.
Beede winds up making Cleveland’s season-opening roster and will pitch in relief to open the year. The 30-year-old righty hasn’t pitched in the majors since the 2022 campaign.
  • CLE Starting Pitcher #59
The Athletic’s Zack Meisel reports Carlos Carrasco, Tyler Beede, Brayan Rocchio, Tyler Freeman, David Fry and Gabriel Arias have made the Guardians’ Opening Day roster.
Carrasco and Beede make the season-opening rosters as NRI’s, which means they’ll need to be added to Cleveland’s active roster at some point in the next few days. No real shockers here, which leaves the final roster spot for Will Brennan, Deyvison De Los Santos or Estevan Florial.
  • Relief Pitcher #26
Guardians reassinged LHP Anthony Gose and 3B Daniel Schneemann to minor league camp.
Cleveland still has to figure out the rest of the outfield and bullpen, but for now, they have informed Gabriel Arias, Brayan Rocchiom David Fry, Tyler Freeman, Carlos Carrasco and Tyler Beede that they have made the Opening Day roster.
  • CLE Relief Pitcher #48
Tyler Beede delivered an impressive performance in Friday afternoon’s victory over the Royals, allowing just three hits over five scoreless innings.
The 30-year-old right-hander walked one and struck out three batters in the strong outing. The biggest jam that he faced came in the second inning, as Hunter Renfroe smacked a leadoff single and Nelson Velazquez worked a two-out walk, but Beede battled back to get Gavin Cross on a ground ball to end the threat. He’s making a serious run at a spot on the Guardians’ Opening Day roster — compiling a 1.69 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and a 10/4 K/BB ratio across 10 2/3 innings on the spring.
  • CLE Relief Pitcher #48
Tyler Beede allowed one run with two strikeouts across 1 1/3 innings of work in a Cactus League start against the Mariners on Sunday.
Beede is looking to make a comeback to the majors after signing a minor league deal with the Guardians. He allowed a solo homer to Mitch Haniger in the first inning, then walked a batter with one out in the second before he was replaced on the mound. The 30-year-old right-hander is facing an uphill battle to win an Opening Day roster spot.
  • CLE Relief Pitcher #48
Guardians signed RHP Tyler Beede to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Beede last pitched in the big leagues during the 2022 season when he made 31 appearances (five starts) between the Giants and Pirates. He’s spent last year pitching overseas for the Yomiuri Giants of Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball. The 30-year-old former first-round pick will compete this spring for a spot on Cleveland’s season-opening roster, most likely as a versatile relief option.

Tyler Beede has signed a contract with the Yomiuri Giants of Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball.
Beede, a former first-round selection back in 2014, holds an underwhelming 5.34 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 163/83 K/BB ratio across 187 innings (58 appearances, 29 starts) in the majors since 2018. He finished last year with the Pirates in a relief role after being cut loose by the Giants. He’ll aim to rebuild his long-term value overseas in Japan next year.

  • FA Relief Pitcher #46
Tyler Beede has elected free agency.
The 29-year-old threw 61 1/3 innings for the Giants and Pirates -- posting a 5.14 ERA, 1.63 WHIP, and 39/29 K/BB ratio. The former first-round pick once showed promise with the Giants but Tommy John surgery and a lower back strain allowed him to toss just one inning between 2020 and 2021. Given the lack of starting pitching depth around the league, Beede shouldn’t have trouble landing a minor league contract with an invitation to big league camp this offseason.
