    Bucs waived/injured RB Troymain Pope.
The Bucs also waived Quinton Bell, Nate Brooks, T.J. Simmons, and Lawrence White. This brings their roster down to 80 players. Pope was a long-shot to make Tampa Bay’s roster with Giovani Bernard and Ke’Shawn Vaughn standing in his way. He was unable to play in the team’s second preseason game because of an injury which likely spelled the end of his time in Tampa Bay.

Bucs signed RB Troymaine Pope, formerly of the Chargers.
Pope was brought in on a tryout during rookie camp and showed well enough to make the team for now. Cracking the final 53 could prove difficult for Pope as the Tampa Bay running back room is fairly deep. Giovani Bernard and Ke’Shawn Vaughn stand in his way of sticking with the Bucs assuming Leonard Fournette and Ronald Jones are already locked into roster spots. Pope has 37 career carries, 15 of which came with the Chargers last year. Contributing on special teams will be his best chance of earning a job in Tampa Bay.

  • FA Running Back #46
    Chargers waived RB Troymaine Pope.
Pope ever-so-briefly emerged as a 15-touch player for Week 8 against the Broncos, but his role disappeared just as quickly as it emerged thanks to better health around him. Pope could end up back on the 53-man roster in Week 16 or 17, but there is no reason to keep him around in Dynasty leagues.

  • FA Running Back #46
Troymaine Pope (neck) is inactive for Week 14 against the Falcons.
Pope will miss his second straight game. Also inactive are RB Joshua Kelley, LB Denzel Perryman, WR Joe Reed, OL Tyree St. Louis, and QB Easton Stick.

Troymaine Pope (concussion) is active for Week 10 against Miami.
This was expected after Pope practiced fully all week. Kalen Ballage is also active, making the Chargers a likely three-back committee with Joshua Kelley. The Chargers inactives are QB Easton Stick, OT Storm Norton, DL Jessie Lemonier, and DE Joey Bosa.

  • FA Running Back #46
Troymaine Pope (concussion) is questionable for Week 10 against the Dolphins.
Pope is fully expected to clear the league’s protocol on Saturday after practicing in full throughout the week. Justin Jackson (knee) has since been ruled out, but the Chargers will still re-call Kalen Ballage from the practice squad and enter Sunday with Joshua Kelley, Ballage, and (presumably) Pope against the Dolphins, which will be missing both Kyle Van Noy and Christian Wilkins (COVID) in the front-seven. How touches are dispersed will ultimately come down to who performs best in the first quarter.

  • DET Running Back #38
Chargers RB Justin Jackson (knee) didn’t practice Thursday.
Charges head coach Anthony Lynn said Jackson -- who left last week’s game early in the first quarter -- could miss practice all week. Troymaine Pope (concussion), who practiced in full the past two days, could resume his role as the team’s lead back. Jackson missing this week’s game against the Dolphins could also create a three-headed backfield for LA, making Pope, Joshua Kelley, and Kalen Ballage -- a fantasy headache, to be sure.

  • FA Running Back #46
Chargers RB Troymaine Pope (concussion) practiced in full ahead of Week 10.
Pope received a massive workload in Week 8, taking 10 carries for 67 yards and recording seven targets for five catches and 28 yards, before exiting with the head injury. Notably, he seemed to get the “hot hand” treatment ahead of Joshua Kelley that day. Likely without Justin Jackson in Week 10 against the Dolphins, Pope, Kelley and Kalen Ballage will split backfield touches until one claims the role in-game.

Chargers RB Troymaine Pope (concussion) is doubtful for Week 9 against the Raiders.
Chargers head coach said Thursday that Pope had cleared the NFL’s concussion protocol. It looks like he’s unlikely to be active a week after taking a vicious shot to the head. Pope came out of nowhere to play 29 percent of the team’s snaps, seeing 10 rushes and seven targets. If Pope is out, Joshua Kelley and Justin Jackson become more stable fantasy options in a game with one of the week’s highest over/unders. Jackson has been the lead back since Austin Ekeler went down with a hamstring injury.

  • FA Running Back #46
Chargers RB Troymaine Pope cleared the league’s concussion protocol.
Pope took a big hit to the neck and head area last week against the Broncos. Pope came out of nowhere to play 29 percent of the team’s snaps, seeing 10 rushes and seven targets. Pope relegated rookie Joshua Kelley to third in the backfield pecking order last week while Justin Jackson led the backfield in snaps and rushing attempts. Pope could be a savvy pickup for running back-needy fantasy managers.
