McDaniel

McDaniel was released by the Seahawks on Sunday in a cost-cutting move. The Raiders will be one of at least a few teams interested, especially given their cap space and the presence of former Seattle assistant Ken Norton Jr. as their defensive coordinator.

McDaniel left in the first half and did not return. Jared Odrick stepped up at the start of the third quarter with a 39-yard interception return that set up a touchdown.

Wake is “going back home” to his natural position as a Dwight Freeney-style right defensive end. Jared Odrick is shifting to left end while Randy Starks and Tony McDaniels are moving inside to defensive tackle. Third-round rookie Olivier Vernon is expected to contribute immediately as a nickel edge rusher.

The injury bothered McDaniel throughout training camp, and he aggravated it versus the Texans in the season opener. McDaniels has felt “awesome” in a pair of limited practices this week and expects to play Sunday versus the Bengals.

Despite stealing Cliff Avril and Michael Bennett already, the Seahawks continue to explore pieces for their defensive line. McDaniel, who has been a quality reserve for the Dolphins over the last four seasons, would serve the same role in Seattle. Alan Branch is a free agent that the Seahakws haven’t shown interest in re-signing.
