Terrence Shannon Jr. shot 5-of-11 from the field and 4-of-6 from the foul line in Friday’s win over the Lakers, finishing with 14 points, four rebounds, five assists, and one steal in 26 minutes.
Shannon was one of the Timberwolves who benefitted from Chris Finch’s decision to shut down the starters after the first quarter. Also, Anthony Edwards was not active for the team’s preseason opener. Shannon had a solid night attacking the basket and was also impactful as a playmaker for others. Getting the minutes needed to be an impactful fantasy option once the games count will be difficult, but Shannon is undoubtedly a worthwhile target in dynasty leagues.

Terrence Shannon Jr. (left toe) will not return to Thursday’s game against Houston.
Shannon Jr. has played well this summer, but this game will end for him after he logged just seven minutes and only contributed a rebound. Hopefully this isn’t an injury that will keep him out past this game, but if it does, he was able to do enough this summer to prove that he should be part of the team’s rotation to some extent next season.
  • MIN Shooting Guard
Terrence Shannon Jr. logged 30 minutes in Sunday’s win over the Pacers, amassing 19 points (6-of-11 FGs, 7-of-8 FTs), four rebounds, two assists, two steals, and three blocks.
Shannon had a good afternoon on Sunday, scoring efficiently while also impacting the action on defense. The former Illinois standout accumulated five “stocks,” and the Timberwolves collectively produced 17 steals and eight blocked shots. Shannon’s scoring ability is why he was valued as a draft prospect, but his defense should not be overlooked. His fantasy potential next season may be limited due to the bench role he’s likely to take on, but Shannon will certainly have value.

Terrence Shannon Jr. was selected with pick No. 27 by the Timberwolves in the 2024 NBA Draft.
After spending three years at Texas Tech, Shannon Jr. played his last two seasons for Illinois, and he averaged 23.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.0 steal, 0.9 blocks and 2.4 triples per game last season. Shannon was arrested in December, but he was found not guilty of felony rape and aggravated sexual assault two weeks before the draft. The lefty will turn 24 next month, which should make his transition to the pros a bit smoother than the younger prospects in this draft. He was the No. 3 scorer in college basketball last season, with a lot of points coming from the free throw line. He’s a 6’7” guard that can create his own shot, which makes him an intriguing prospect. He could see some bench minutes behind Anthony Edwards to start his career, but the playing time will likely be limited.
