    49ers re-signed LB Tavares Gooden to a one-year contract.
The former Raven ranked third in tackles on the league’s premier special teams unit last season. He had already turned down one offer, so it looks like the Niners upped the ante at the last minute.

Free agent ILB Tavares Gooden will visit the Cardinals on Thursday.
That’s if he escapes Pittsburgh without a deal. Gooden is visiting the Steelers on Wednesday. The special teamer and reserve linebacker will likely have a new home before the end of the week.

Free agent ILB Tavares Gooden is visiting the Steelers Wednesday.
It’s the first nibble Gooden has gotten on the free agent market. The special teamer and backup linebacker posted just nine tackles in 15 games for the Niners last season, but did start 12 games for the Ravens back in 2009.

Texans waived LB Tavares Gooden and promoted CB Josh Victorian from their practice squad.
Gooden lasted on the roster for just over a week. A rare miss by Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome, Gooden was the 73rd pick in the 2008 draft by Baltimore.

ILB Tavares Gooden started in Bart Scott’s former spot on the first-team defense during the start of Ravens minicamp.
Gooden, who missed much of last year following hip flexor and sports hernia surgeries, reportedly “displayed outstanding mobility” in early action. Lining up next to Ray Lewis makes Gooden an intriguing IDP option if he wins the job.

The Ravens’ website confirms that Tavares Gooden is expected to replace Bart Scott as Baltimore’s starting inside linebacker next to Ray Lewis.
Scott was only once a 100-tackle guy, but Lewis’ impending decline could lead to more opportunities up the middle for Gooden. Gooden will also face competition from Prescott Burgess and Brendon Ayanbadejo in camp.
  • FA Linebacker #53
Jameel McClain is Tavares Gooden’s main competition to fill the Ravens’ old inside linebacker role vacated by Bart Scott.
Gooden is clearly the favorite. A defensive end at Syracuse, McClain has never played inside and is more of a situational edge rusher/special teamer.

Ravens beat writer Mike Preston has selected ILB Tavares Gooden as his 2010 breakout player.
Preston believes last year’s third-rounder will need another year in the weight room before he turns into a “beast.” He could still put up high tackle numbers this season in Bart Scott’s vacated spot next to Ray Lewis.

ILB Tavares Gooden seemed to have reaggravated his sports hernia injury from last winter.
Gooden hasn’t practiced since Thursday morning, and is expected to replace Bart Scott in the middle this upcoming season. Nothing appears to be torn, but we will update the situation as we hear it.

Ravens declared LB Tavares Gooden, OT Oniel Cousins, DL Kelly Talavou, DL Brandon McKinney, RB Jalen Parmele, OL Tony Moll, TE Tony Curtis and third QB John Beck inactive for Week 4.
The Ravens are mostly healthy for their Week 4 tilt with the Patriots.
