Zidane calls up his son, Enzo, for Real Madrid

Zinenide Zidane Announced As New Real Madrid Manager

A mini injury crisis has led to a rather interesting new name being called up to Real Madrid’s first team.

Except, it’s not a new name. It’s one Real fans around the world adore and it’s a name shared by the manager.

That’s right, according to a report in Spain Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has called up his son, Enzo, for training with the first team with Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale, Marcelo and Pepe all out injured.

Central midfielder Enzo, 20, was called up from Real Madrid Castilla (the reserve squad) along with Norwegian teenager Martin Odegaard, Marcos Llorente and Carols Abad to train with the first team on Wednesday at Valdebebas. Real face crosstown rivals Atletico Madrid this weekend in La Liga but it’s unlikely any of these youngsters will take part.

This isn’t the first time Enzo Fernandez (as he’s widely known) has trained with the first team at Real, but it is the first time he has trained for Real Madrid with his father in charge. How strange/cool must that be?

And of course, Enzo isn’t the only Zidane currently playing at Real. His three younger brothers -- Luca, Theo, and Elyaz -- all play for Real’s academy teams too with three central midfielders (obviously) and a goalkeeper among them.

If Real’s president Florentino Perez decides to stick with Zidane in charge for a long-time (highly doubtful given his hiring and firing tactics in the past) then one day could he be coaching his four sons in the first team at the Santiago Bernabeu?
