Wolves continued their slow but steady climb away from the Premier League’s relegation places on Saturday, as they fought back from a goal down to draw Everton 1-1 at Molineux Stadium.
WATCH – Wolves vs Everton full match replay
The Toffees (14th - 33 points) went ahead through Jack Harrison’s opening goal — his first in 39 appearances spread across two seasons on loan at Everton — in the 33rd minute, but the lead lasted just seven minutes before Zimbabwean midfielder Marshall Munetsi ran onto a brilliant ball from Jean-Ricner Bellegarde and guided it past Jordan Pickford in the 40th.
The point is undoubtedly more meaningful for Wolves (17th - 23 points), who now sit six points clear of both Ipswich and Leicester in the bottom-three with 10 games left to play (the Foxes are yet to play this weekend, away to 5th-place Chelsea on Sunday - 10 am ET).
Forget fancy football, Everton getting by on functionality
Despite dropping points from a winning position, David Moyes’ side is now unbeaten in their last eight PL games (4W-4D-0L) since losing to Aston Villa on his re-debut as manager. Everton have won 16 points in 9 games under Moyes, compared to 17 in 19 under Sean Dyche to begin the season. That said, four of their five best scoring chances (by proximity to goal and/or xG) came from set pieces and there was precious little else to speak of. Harrison’s goal came as a result of not one, but two deflections to wrong-foot Jose Sa, otherwise we’re looking at Everton’s performance in a very different light.

Wolves have lost two of their last three games and more worryingly they had Matheus Cunha sent off in their FA Cup last 16 defeat (on penalty kicks) at Bournemouth. That means Cunha is out for this game against Everton and very winnable games at Southampton and at home against West Ham. Wolves are currently five points above the relegation zone with 11 games to go but they could have really done with their top goalscorer Cunha for these next three games.
Everton have some injury issues to deal with but David Moyes’ side are unbeaten in seven in the Premier League with Beto’s incredible goalscoring form leading the charge. They sit just one place above Wolves in the table but they’re 10 points better off and the aim for the Toffees for the rest of the season is to push towards the top 10. Excitement is building around their new stadium as test events continue and things are looking extremely bright for the blue half of Liverpool.
