- Newcastle off target despite control of match
- Ighalo scores again, Cathcart adds rare finish
- Jamaal Lascelles scores for visitors
Odion Ighalo and Craig Cathcart scored second half goals, and Watford held off wasteful Newcastle in a 2-1 win at Vicarage Road on Saturday.
The win snaps a four-game losing streak for the Hornets, and lifts them back into the top half.
Jamaal Lascelles scored for Newcastle, which remains in 18th. That’s a point back of Swansea and two back of Norwich City.

Newcastle was dominant through the first half, with Aleksandar Mitrovic continuing his streak of getting into great position but failing to finish.
That mattered little when, just after halftime, Troy Deeney chipped a ball for Ighalo. The Hornets’ big scorer danced around Rob Elliot to slot the hosts ahead 1-0.

The Hornets increased their lead in the 58th minute, as a stumbling Ighalo laid the ball off for Cathcart to calmly finish from inside 10 yards.
But Lascelles popped a header past Gomes off a Jonjo Shelvey counter to make it 2-1 with about 20 minutes.
