VIDEO: Watch Arsene Wenger snub Jose Mourinho handshake. Who is in the wrong?

As you may have heard by now, the feud between Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho intensified on Sunday.

Following Arsenal’s 1-0 win over Chelsea in the traditional curtain-raiser for the domestic season at Wembley Stadium -- Wenger’s first victory over Mourinho at the 14th attempt -- Jose Mourinho waited at the bottom of the famous steps at Wembley to personally shake the hand of every Arsenal player and congratulate them on winning the Community Shield.

Then, Wenger arrived at the end of the line. The Frenchman would have been able to see Mourinho for quite some time and instead of shaking the hand of his opposite number, Wenger not so sneakily walked past Mourinho as he snubbed a handshake with the Chelsea manager.

Many would say Mourinho was being confrontational by addressing the Arsenal players, but he claimed he was just doing his job. As for Wenger, he had this to say about not shaking Mourinho’s hand.

“I shoke a few hands today after the game. There’s nothing special there. That’s it,” Wenger said. “I believe in a job where you have to respect people and respect everybody. It’s a difficult job. I think it is vital that manager’s respect each other.”

This is what Mourinho had to say:

“Well I was doing what the status of my club and my status as a manger, I think what I have to do for myself and my club which was to be there for the winners and wait there for them at a point that if you want to miss me, you will miss me,” Mourinho said with a grin. “It was the easiest thing to do because I was just there. If other people didn’t come in my direction, that is not a problem. That is not a story. That is not the end of the world. No more comments on that. I did my job. The job my club deserves me to do and my status as a manger.”

The fact that this spat continues to play out in public is quite embarrassing for both of those legendary coaches. Wenger and Mourinho pushed each other in the technical area last season in Chelsea’s 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge. The Portuguese boss also called Wenger a “specialist in failure” and goaded Arsenal’s fans at the end of last season. Mourinho has also recently commented on Arsenal’s expenditure in the transfer market and all of that added up to the situation we saw play out at Wembley on Sunday.

Yes, it will drive interest into the rivalry between the manager’s of the two biggest teams in London, but there needs to be respect between these managers. They are the figureheads of their clubs and if they act like this, what can we expect from their players, other coaches and the fans in the stands? It may not get that far, but Mourinho and Wenger’s feud is rumbling on. It’s not quite Wenger vs. Sir Alex Ferguson... but it’s getting there.

Bonus: Seconds after being snubbed by Wenger, Mourinho also threw his runners up medal into the stand towards a young Arsenal fan. Watch the video below to see that. As Mourinho gave the simple answer when asked why he did that: “I don’t always keep the winners medals, so what do you think I would do with the losers medal?”
