Moments after Ander Herrera won the ball off the feet of Gerrard, the 34-year-old stamped emphatically on Herrera’s leg right in front of referee Martin Atkinson, and it produced a straight red card from Atkinson’s pocket that reduced Liverpool to 10 men and seemed completely out of character for the legendary Gerrard.
Thus, Gerrard’s final match against the Red Devils came to an end less than a minute after coming on. A truly stunning turn of events.
