VIDEO: Didier Drogba scores first MLS goal, hat trick for Montreal Impact

UPDATE: Drogba went on to score two more goals Saturday night, giving him his first MLS hat trick, and the Impact a massive 4-3 victory. Watch his other two goals, right here.

It took Didier Drogba all of 58 minutes into his Major League Soccer career to score his first goal for the Montreal Impact (above video). Drogba, who signed for the Impact this summer, played 31 minutes off the bench in his MLS debut two weeks before breaking his duck 27 minutes into his second league game Saturday night.

In true Drogba fashion, the goal was a result of the Chelsea and Ivory Coast legend being a real handful to contend with physically, while displaying the kind of soft touch, balance and agility found only at the highest level.

When I said (repeatedly), “He’s going to score goal in MLS no matter how old he is,” the above manhandling of Eric Gehrig is precisely what I had in mind. I imagine, based on the way he slumped to the ground like a 50-pound sack of potatoes, Gehrig thought he had just slammed shoulder-first into a cement wall.
