Here’s a case of curious timing.

One day after her Seattle Reign lost the NWSL Championship Game, reports have emerged that USWNT goalkeeper Hope Solo will face domestic violence charges for an incident with her nephew and sister in 2014.

Solo was arrested in July 2014 after an altercation with her nephew at a family party. The story made a home in the headlines and court rooms for months, and her husband, ex-NFL player Jerramy Stevens, called it a witch hunt.

Soon after the charges were dismissed, Stevens was driving a U.S. Soccer van when both he and Solo had another incident involving police, Solo lambasting officers. After a very public apology to soccer fans and teammates, she then starred in the 2015 World Cup, winning the tournament’s Golden Glove.

Now, if this is a witch hunt, it’s back on (or never stopped). The decision to dismiss the case has been reversed.

From ESPNW’s Mark Fainaru-Wada:

As the case was nearing trial in January, a judge dismissed the charges on procedural grounds. City prosecutors, in a rare move, immediately appealed the decision.

A document filed Friday to the state court’s website does not offer a timetable for a new trial, saying only “The court reverses the decision of the lower court and remands the case to the Kirkland (Washington) Municipal Court.”

This is a surprising turn of events, especially given the timing. As details emerge, we’ll update you. Whether legal axe grinders or a guilty goalkeeper, this is an issue that will not go away, and is sure to see more Internet toxicity from Solo supporters and detractors alike.

Before anyone debates the choice of photo -- “Use the mugshot!” “Why is she smiling?!?” -- don’t; It’s simply the most recent photo on the wire. We’re waiting and searching for more facts just like you.
