Johnson, 28, injured his groin during the 2-1 defeat to Schalke 04 on Friday as Monchengladbach’s chances of finishing in the top four of the Bundesliga took a hit.

In a release on their website, the German outfit confirmed that Raffael and Johnson were injured during the loss and sent out the following statement.

“Fabian Johnson underwent the same examination, revealing a groin strain for the USA international. Both players will be sidelined for the time being.”

Potentially losing Johnson will be a big blow for the USMNT head coach Jurgen Klinsmann ahead of the USA’s upcoming 2018 World Cup qualifiers.

The Nats face Guatemala home and away with a trip to Guatemala City on Mar. 25 and then hosting them in Columbus, Ohio on Mar. 29.
