Tracking Landon Donovan: updating the all-time scoring lists after his four-assist night

With four assists over the weekend, Landon Donovan leapfrogged Marco Etcheverry and Jaime Moreno on the all-time assist leadership. Donovan has 105 and now possesses an outside shot of catching Preki (112) at No. 3 on the all-time chart by year’s end.

If Donovan, 30, remains in MLS he’ll easily lap Preki and Carlos Valderrama at No. 2, probably by June of next year, if not earlier.

Sitting 12 goals behind Jeff Cunningham on the MLS all-time scoring leadership, I’ll hold steady on what I’ve written for about two years now: that Donovan will overtake that major mark by the middle of 2013. (Assuming, once again, that he remains in MLS.)

Here are the current lists; the Galaxy has nine regular season games remaining this year, although Donovan will miss Wednesday’s visit to Columbus while pulling national team duty:
