Swansea City agree to fee for Portugal forward Eder

213909

Portugal forward Eder is on his way out of his home country, where he has performed for Braga in the Primeira Liga since 2012, and will sign with Swansea City for around a fee of $7.85 million (£5 million).

He was capped 18 times for Portugal and appeared in the 2014 World Cup, facing off against the United States, Germany and Ghana in Group G.

At the club level, Eder has performed in his homeland for multiple teams including Académica and Tourizense, and scored 10 goals in 29 appearances last season for Braga to establish his strong presence in the attack.

The Swans’ summer signings to this point comprise of Ghana forward Andre Ayew, goalkeeper Kristoffer Nordfeldt from Dutch side Heerenveen, and former St-Etienne defender Franck Tabanou. City have also engaged in discussion with a young Barcelona goalkeeper named Guillermo Lara, according to BBC Sport.

This signing makes sense following the departure of forward Wilfried Bony to Manchester City for a hefty $39.25 million fee, as Bony has a skill set similar to Braga’s, though the Ivorian’s ability is coveted by title contenders.

Southampton and newly promoted Bournemouth also pursued Braga before this deal was revealed.
