What a bizarre trip through soccer it’s been for 25-year-old Freddy Adu, the former prodigy turned poster child for high expectations gone awry.

To be sure, many Americans are rooting hard for Adu to overcome the career struggles that found him on nine clubs before he turned 25.

It seems the next stop could be Serbia, as FK Jagodina president Goran Milanovic told the team’s official web site (non-English language) that he wants Adu and that his club would be a better stop for the player than Cypriot Premier League team AEL Limassol.

Adu is currently training with AZ Alkmaar, according to Jagodina, and will choose between the UEFA Champions League qualifying club in AEL and the UEFA Europa League qualifying side in Jagodina.

Some reports have him signing with Jagodina by the weekend.

Adu last appeared for the USMNT in 2011, when he collected his 17th cap. He’s scored twice for the national team. His 28 appearances and eight goals for the Philadelphia Union in 2012 are both career highs.

Godspeed, Freddy.
