Major League Soccer’s San Jose Earthquakes have been around for 40 years – reminding us once again that soccer really isn’t the new kind on the block anymore. There is genuine domestic history in the game now. Just ask anyone who might remember seeing the one and only George Best at the old, old Spartan Stadium back in the 70s.
So the MLS club used the occasion of the club’s 40th anniversary to unveil a new logo.
Earthquakes president Dave Kaval wrote a letter to supporters explaining what went behind the conceptual development of the new logo. He explained that it wasn’t just a logo redesign, but a more thorough re-think of what the club wanted to stand for.
As for us? We just get excited about logos. And this one is sharp and classy. (And we’ll get a bigger, higher resolution look at it on the blog when one is available. The club unveiled the new logo only about an hour ago at this writing.)
The club also has new-look jerseys, also unveiled Thursday evening.
