Ruben Amorim reaction — Manchester United boss responds to blowout home loss

Ruben Amorim’s reaction to Manchester United’s 3-0 loss to Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Sunday may be the only novel thing from what was an all-too-familiar game despite the new man roaming the sideline.

The Portuguese watched his team, a little slow out of the gates, take control of the game in the first half but trail 1-0 on a Bournemouth set-piece goal.

The Red Devils pushed for an equalizer out of halftime but instead were beaten twice thanks to more mistakes, as a Justin Kluivert penalty and Antoine Semenyo team goal made it 3-0 with just under a half-hour to play in Manchester.

First impressions on the loss: “It’s hard to push for two, three wins and we are trying but this game was hard on us. Without conceding any [goals], we suffered again on set pieces. We were a little bit nervous, I felt it at the stadium. We controlled the rest of the first half but conceded. The second half, we tried to score but in the end it was a tough match in a tough situation so let’s move on.”

How the game went from 0-0 to 3-0: “In the end you can see different things but if you look at the game, we were not conceding before the first goal then we had a lot of opportunities, If we managed to score one goal it should be different. In this moment everything is hard on us. The set pieces, the penalty, then we are too nervous, and we have to fight. ... We need to control better the game because we already know this game is going to be hard. We have to control these moments better.”

How to fix things: “We have to work on the way we play. That’s all. Give them something to do. We have to focus on the job, the moment, not what you feel in the stadium. Just focus on what you have to do when the ball is in one place or other place. That’s all I have to do.”

On facing Wolves in a few days: “We will start again. We will have to suffer again in the game. We will try to win it in this sense. Sometimes too many games too much, but sometimes you need another game, to go again.”
