Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio just returned Saturday from a thigh injury for his first appearance this season, receiving the start against Chievo Verona. It lasted just 45 minutes.
Removed at halftime after feeling his thigh tighten up again, Gianluca Di Marzio and Sky Sports Italia are both reporting Marchisio could miss yet another month with the new problem.
The 29-year-old suffered the initial issue at the beginning of Juventus preseason after a heavy international schedule over the summer. He missed the first two league games of the season for Juventus, which the club lost both. Marchisio’s absence has been exacerbated by the more serious injury to Sami Khedira, leaving the Juventus midfield weak in deeper positions.
At the least, Marchisio will miss the Champions League trip this week to Manchester City in group stage play.
Without Marchisio, Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri went with a three-CB lineup that featured a clogged five-man midfield, bringing in Simone Padoin and dropping Paul Pogba back deeper, but the club lost to both Udinese and AS Roma.
