The BBC is reporting that mercurial but industrious midfielder Joey Barton will have a medical on Monday ahead of a move to West Ham United.

The former QPR man, 32, would provide even more steel to an intriguing Hammers’ side that upset Arsenal 2-0 on the opening weekend of Premier League play.

Despite a tumultuous reputation that included a 77-day prison stay for assault and affray, Barton hasn’t bounced from club to club. He spent five seasons at Man City, five more at Newcastle, then four at QPR with a season-long loan to Marseille in the middle.

Even in watching Aston Villa play Bournemouth this week -- Barton had been linked with Tim Sherwood’s Villans -- Barton raised a bit of controversy by saying the best player was watching the match:

Come on people lighten up a little. I wasn’t being serious. Although, I was certainly the best central midfielder 😂 https://t.co/GYuTfxSTI8
