Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew left for the Crystal Palace managerial vacancy, and with that decision, his assistant, John Carver, was afforded the opportunity to steer the sidelines as head man against Burnley on Thursday.
After holding a 2-1 advantage at the the end of the first half, the Magpies let three points get away from them when George Boyd buried the equalizer int he 86th minute to cap a 3-3 draw.

“I thought we controlled the game, played some really good football in the first half, but my word the second half was pretty awful,” Carver said.
The former Toronto FC manager went on to explain the downfall of his squad.
“They put us under pressure. We knew exactly what they were going to do, and they give us something that we’re no used to in the Premiership, and they went a little bit more direct. They had good movement of the two strikers, the two wide guys coming off the line which we talked about.”
Regardless of the match’s outcome, Carver believes he put forth 100 percent effort in his first appearance as Newcastle caretaker.
“Well, listen, whatever game it is, whatever position we’re I’m in, I always give everything. I love the game, very passionate as you know.”
