Real Madrid’s hallowed grounds are getting a new name.
The La Liga giant has agreed to rename their home stadium after working out a sponsorship deal withsponsorship deal with United Arab Emirates-based International Petroleum Investment Company (IPIC).
Estadio Santiago Bernabeu would go on to be known as either the Abu Dhabi Santiago Bernabeu, or the Cepsa Santiago Bernabeu, as Real Madrid president Florentino Perez insists the former name stay in the title.

As an American, I understand the selling of naming rights to a stadium. And as a person who lives on this Earth, I’m asking that Real Madrid please choose the Cepsa option over the Abu Dhabi option.
Why? Some quick thoughts:
Abu Dhabi is a city in the United Arab Emirates.
The Estadio Santiago Bernabeu is a stadium in Madrid, Spain.
Therein lies the rub with Real Madrid’s plans to rename their stadium Abu Dhabi Santiago Bernabeu.
Would it sound right to say “I’m going to the Chicago Cubs play at Tokyo Wrigley Field?”
Or how about, “Super pumped to check out the Bears/Packers game this Sunday at Budapest Lambeau Field.”
So, yes, perhaps Cepsa Santiago Bernabeu would be a bit more palatable. In any event, a major change is coming to Madrid.
