Cristiano Ronaldo may not be ready for the start of Real Madrid’s season.

The Portuguese superstar, 31, injured his left knee just minutes into the EURO 2016 final which forced him off the pitch in the first half.

His Portugal teammates rallied to beat hosts France 1-0 after extra time to seal glory for Ronaldo and his compatriots, but the knee injury he picked up after a heavy challenge from Dimtri Payet still needs time to heal.

Speaking to reporters following Real Madrid’s 1-0 International Champions Cup win against Bayern Munich at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Wednesday, head coach Zinedine Zidane revealed that Ronaldo is struggling to be fit for their opening La Liga game against Real Sociedad on Aug. 31.

“Right now he still has his injury,” Zidane said. “Obviously he wants to be back but we need patience and for him to be calm. He will be back with us soon in Madrid.”

Real Madrid also have the showpiece UEFA Super Cup final against Sevilla in Trondheim, Norway on Aug. 9 as the UEFA Champions League holders face the UEFA Europa League champs, but the likes of Pepe, Toni Kroos and Gareth Bale could also miss that after missing Real’s tour of the U.S. after their exertions at EURO 2016 this summer.

Ronaldo -- who scored 51 goals in 48 games for for Real last season -- has been seen partying and socializing across the planet since he helped Portugal to its first-ever major trophy this summer.

For all he has achieved, and continues to achieve, in the game, I think I speak for all of us when I say we hope to see Ronaldo back on the pitch as soon as possible.
