Early corners came DC United’s way, and Steve Birnbaum nearly headed home in the 4th minute.
Lucho Acosta finally opened up a chance worth watching in the 39th minute, as the MLS newcomer belted a shot that was parried right to Fabian Espindola. Sadly, the rebound was flubbed.
Jonathan Bornstein had a decent chance for the home side, which struggled to find a flow. To be fair, so did the visitors.

The pace picked up in the second half, or at least the action, as Taylor Kemp dribbled in from the left wing and pinged a rocket off the crossbar.
And then, the goal. It was a 71st minute spinning beauty, too, one that fooled Andrew Dykstra from 20 yards out. Maybe Bill Hamid makes the stop, but it was 1-0 Queretaro either way.
Another disappointing moment in defense came when a mistimed headed clearance helped a pass to reach Benitez, who beat Dykstra near post.Goal QRO No. 19 Yerson CANDELO | @dcunited @Club_Queretaro #SCCL https://t.co/kwFRy6ptty
