Generally speaking, I think the in-game, coach’s sideline interview really should go the way of the ol’ Commodore 64 – retired to the pasture of once-useful, now-dated devices.
It’s a pointless vestige of another day in soccer broadcasting, when marketing mavens felt the need to trick-up soccer broadcasts.
Besides, it’s quite awkward. The coaches don’t want to do it; the best of them oblige it politely but don’t actually tell us anything.
So can’t we take this idea out behind the barn and end it already?
All that said, I did get a giggle over this one during the weekend. You just knew it would happen eventually.
