A 5-2 victory over Japan in the Women’s World Cup final handed the United States their first hardware since the famed 1999 squad completed the journey.
At the match’s end, U.S. midfielder Carli Lloyd and goalkeeper Hope Solo managed to come away with individual awards for excellence throughout the tournament.
As is customary in the modern day, fans and players took to social media to start celebrating.
