Pep Guardiola reaction — What did Man City boss say after loss to Juventus?

Another game, another loss for Manchester City, as manager Pep Guardiola’s career-worst slump continues to baffle the boss, his team, and — frankly — the soccer world.

So what did the Man City boss say after a 2 -0 loss to Juventus threatened their UEFA Champions League status and stretched their poor run to seven losses from 10?

“Every single player needs to question themselves,” Guardiola said after the game.

Man City put together a decent first-half in Turin, limiting Juventus in chances, but the second half turned in the Italians’ favor as Dusan Vlahovic and USMNT man Weston McKennie scored to give Juve a big result.

Here’s what Guardiola said after the game in Turin.

Pep Guardiola reaction to Man City loss at Juventus

The Manchester City boss has just spoken to Micah Richards and Alessandro del Piero on CBS Sports Network.

“We’ve missed the last ball,” Guardiola said. “We arrived many times in the six yard box. The game is there. We cannot defend absolutely anything with the result but I’m happy with the way we played. I’m with them, and I’ll be with them.”

Why they have slumped: “There are many reasons. We have a lot of problems. When you play without three central defenders and two holding midfielders, the structure in the middle doesn’t have the stability. It’s really, really tough. The team we played was really, really good. It’s Juventus in Turin, a strong team who is very good in transition and set pieces. Congratulate them. The results, of course, we miss something. We have to insist on our strength as a team will bring us a place where we’ve been in the last decade. The people are going to come back step-by-step. We need one point or three points to qualify for the first 24. We’ll see where we are in February and try to get results.”

Here’s more from Pep, pulled from his interview with TNT Sports by the BBC:

On City’s confidence: ”It’s a big part of it and obviously that’s a mental issue as well. You can see that. We sometimes, one action we miss the ball, lose a duel and you see that we drop immediately, lose the rhythm, they are able to break our rhythm with the easiest of things. They don’t even need to do much.

“You have to do the simple things as good as possible. Work hard again, this is how you get confidence back, even in the game if you miss something, by doing small and simple things you get confidence back at the moment we are always doing the wrong things. ... We know what’s going wrong it’s just finding the switch to turn things around because even though we are not getting results, it doesn’t feel like we are far off.”

“As long as we don’t find that click it’s going to be tough, the only thing right now we can do, every single player needs to question themselves, to do better, how the player can individually sacrifice more to contribute to the team so we can get collectively back on our way.”
