Olivier Giroud signs new Arsenal deal through 2018

Giroud

Despite currently sitting out injured with a broken tibia, Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud has signed a new contract that will keep him at the Emirates through to the summer of 2018, according to the Daily Mirror’s John Cross.

Giroud’s importance to the Gunners has become quite evident, as the club struggled to build goals without an out-and-out striker after his injury. They bought Danny Welbeck from Manchester United to plug the gap.

According to Cross’s report, the deal will pay Giroud around $6.8 million per year.

He is currently out until January with his injury, but still joins Laurent Koscielny, Per Mertesacker, Santi Cazorla and Tomas Rosicky who signed new deals at the end of last season.

With the 27-year-old’s contract set to expire in the summer of 2016, the new deal gives him a raise and adds two seasons to his club control.

He has scored 28 goals in 72 Premier League appearances for Arsenal since coming over from Montpellier in the summer of 2012, and has added four in 14 appearances in the Champions League.

Giroud is one of a number of Arsenal players out injured, including Jack Wilshere, Mikel Arteta, and Aaron Ramsey.
