Leicester City secured their sixth win seven matches on Saturday, as the Foxes beat Southampton 2-0 to keep themselves out of the relegation zone.

Despite their stunning run of picking up 18 points from a possible 21, after winning just four matches in 29 before that, Nigel Pearson’s side are just three points above the drop zone with two games to go. Remarkable.
Speaking to Gary Lineker of the BBC after their latest win, Pearson had the following to say about his teams incredible run.“It transpires that we needed the run we have had to give ourselves a chance. When you get to Christmas with the position we were in we were hoping we’d get to the final day with it still being in our hands,” Pearson said. “We have had a fantastic run but have work to do. Even for a weird manager like myself we have to take stick and see it through.
“The players continue to work hard, believe in ourselves. Throughout the season we played to a level where the results didn’t always reflect our performances. The fans stuck with us, they’ve seen enough to suggest we’ve got performances in us. This run’s been phenomenal really. Look at Sunderland’s win today at Everton, it shows you can’t really compare seasons. With 37 points we are still having to fight hard.”
On Boxing Day Leicester were six points from safety and sat at the bottom of the PL. To go on the run they have is astonishing but the sheer fact that the Foxes aren’t yet safe shows you just how well other teams at the bottom are performing.

Sunderland has won two on the spin, Aston Villa has won two of its last three and West Bromwich Albion have pulled cleared of the drop zone after some superb results.

Leicester’s final two games are away at Sunderland (a huge clash as just one point and one place separates the teams) and at home against Queens Park Rangers, who will likely already be relegated.
Pearson is right, the Foxes have been “phenomenal” as fast starts have simply blown away the opposition in recent weeks, but now they need to finish the job off.
