Miguel Herrera and Mexico finished up 2014 with a disappointing defeat to Belarus in freezing conditions in Minsk.
El Tri lost 3-2 in the Belarusian capital despite leading twice through Raul Jimenez in a crazy second half.
Mexico twice took the lead in a mad spell after the interval as four goals were scored in just eight minutes at the Borisov Arena. Sergei Kislyak and Nikolai Signevich equalized for Belarus twice, then nine minutes from time the game-winner arrived for the Eastern Europeans.
Pavel Nyakhaychyk was the hero as Belarus snapped a three-game losing streak with the victory. As for Mexico, it was their first defeat since losing to the Netherlands in the last 16 of the 2014 World Cup as Herrera’s men had gone five-games unbeaten.
Despite fielding an experimental side after defeating the Netherlands in a friendly in Amsterdam last week -- the likes of Javier Hernandez, Hector Herrera and Carlos Vela were on the bench -- El Tri will be disappointed to end a hugely positive 2014 on a sour note.
Belarus are currently ranked 106th in the world by FIFA, 89 places below Mexico who sit in 17th.
