Stoke City manager Mark Hughes has caught the eye of the English FA after his temper tantrum at St. James Park on Boxing Day.
England’s soccer governing body issued a statement saying, “It is alleged that his behaviour in or around the 40th minute of the fixture amounted to improper conduct.”
After seeing his team receive two red cards, Hughes berated the referees, kicked a ball onto the field, and tossed his jacket in frustration, leading to Martin Atkinson’s decision to send Hughes to the seats.
Hughes was widely critical of Atkinson’s performance following the match, saying he was “dumbstruck” by the decisions that led to his 5-1 loss. The charge does not relate to those comments, simply to his actions during the game.
According to the Guardian, the punishment would simply be financial, and not a touchline ban.
Jose Mourinho was hit with a similar charge back in October, for which he was fined £8,000 ($13,100).
