The Uruguayan striker, 29, has agreed a new five-year contract at FC Barcelona which runs until 2021 and he will sign the deal on Friday.

It is believed the new contract makes him the second-highest paid player at Barca, behind Lionel Messi and ahead of Neymar.

Suarez has shone for the Spanish giants since arriving from Liverpool in the summer of 2014, scoring 97 goals in 116 games in all competitions for Barca.

He has won a UEFA Champions League, two La Liga titles, the Copa del Rey twice, a Spanish Super Cup, European Super Cup and a FIFA Club World Cup at Barcelona and is part of the famed MSN strikeforce alongside Messi and Neymar.

Last season Suarez underlined his importance to Barcelona as he scored 40 goals in La Liga to lead the Spanish top-flight, and the whole of Europe, in terms of goals scored. He also scored 59 times in 53 games in all competitions during the 2015-16 campaign for Barca. Incredible.

Barca also confirmed that the new contract also has a release clause of $207 million in case anybody wanted to buy him...

Suarez has truly put the bad times behind him (see: biting opponents twice, once in 2013 in the Premier League and then at the 2014 World Cup) with lengthy bans replaced by lengthy, and extremely lucrative contracts.
