Liverpool steamroll Spurs 5-1, win Premier League title

Liverpool are champions of England for the 20th time after steamrolling woeful Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield on Sunday.

A 5-1 score line barely shows the Reds’ dominance in sealing a first title under Arne Slot and second crown of the Premier League era.

WATCH — Liverpool v Tottenham Hotspur coverage, full match replay

It is going to be one heck of a party at Anfield, and we’ll keep this live blog going well after the final whistle on Merseyside.

Liverpool’s 82 points are 15 more than Arsenal, who can only claim 12 more points this season.

Tottenham Hotspur lose again, their 37 points just one ahead of 17th-place West Ham United. Those clubs meet at 9am ET Sunday.

Reds have (and take) their moment in the (actual) sun

Liverpool were the best and most-complete team in the Premier League this season, and it’s a shame Gorillaz architect Damon Albarn is a Londoner because Sunday was “Feel Good, Inc.” at Anfield. From Andy Robertson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, Alisson Becker, and Mohamed Salah getting to start and star in a title won in front of actual Liverpool supporters to Arne Slot leading Anfield in a Jurgen Klopp song, this was what the league was missing in 2020. There’s plenty about a title fight being over in Week 34 that isn’t ideal, but a home celebration is never a bad thing. The playlist was bumping, the legends were legendary, and the vibes — as they say — were immaculate. Congratulations to Liverpool, the 2024-25 Premier League champions.

Mohamed Salah reaction

How does this game rank in your career? “It’s the best moment in my career for Liverpool. I won the Champions League before but it wasn’t as special as winning the Premier League at Anfield.”

Were you calm before the game? “I knew before the game that the atmosphere would be great but I had to be calm and set the example for the younger players.”

“We spoke a lot in the beginning of the season, he wanted to defend deep but I was honest with him. He’s a good person. He gives you the space to speak about whatever you want and it makes the difference for us,”

What was it like when Arne Slot came in for Jurgen Klopp? “The first impression [of Slot] was I want to win again without Jurgen and all the guys. I appreciate them a lot but I wanted to do it again without them. I believed I could do it.”

What drives you? “If I leave the football club at any time, I just want to be able to say I gave it all. So far, it’s fine.”

Virgil van Dijk reaction — ‘The most beautiful club in the world’

What’s the feeling right now? “It’s something that we don’t take for granted. It’s amazing. A lot of emotions throughout the week. We’ve got a job done that we truly deserved.”

How important to win at Anfield? “The most beautiful club in the world. I think we deserve, all of us, to enjoy the next couple of weeks. Let us savor it. ... I was desperate for all the fans around the world, the fans here, for us as well.”

Half-field circle celebration

The Reds sing “Campeones! Campeones!” before racing back over to the Kop for more celebrations and cheers of the English word.

“Champions! Champions!”

Impressive track list

Bob Marley and the Wailers’ “Three Little Birds” sounds out at Anfield.

In addition to Gerry & The Pacemakers’ YNWA, Dua Lipa’s “One Kiss,” and GALA’s “Freed From Desire.”

Reds sing “You’ll Never Walk Alone” arm-in-arm in front of the Kop

What a moment. This is such a special sport, as men from countries all over the planet link arm to sing from the same lyric sheet.

Full time — Liverpool 5-1 Spurs — REDS WIN PREMIER LEAGUE

'Nobody came close': Liverpool clinch PL title
Stephen Warnock looks back on Liverpool's title winning Premier League season in Arne Slot's first season in charge at the club.

The celebrations were already going, and will only get louder as the final whistle signals Arne Slot’s Liverpool have the champions of England.

Liverpool subs complete

Darwin Nunez enters for Alexis Mac Allister, minutes after Wataru Endo and Harvey Elliott replaced Diaz and Alexander-Arnold.

Barring an injury or late red card, Liverpool will win the title with these 11 players on the pitch: Alisson, Robertson, Van Dijk, Konate, Endo, Jones, Gravenberch, Elliott, Jota, Nunez, Salah.

Destiny Udogie own goal — Liverpool 5-1 Tottenham Hotspur (69th minute)

Trent Alexander-Arnold beat the lines and cuts the ball toward Salah, with Destiny Udogie’s desperation lunge pushing the ball over the line.

There’s a review to see is Salah was just ahead of the ball, but at first blush he was fine.

Udogie's own goal gifts Liverpool 5-1 lead
The rout continues as Destiny Udogie's own goal gives the Reds a commanding four-goal cushion in the second half at Anfield.

Subs for both sides

Off go Gakpo and Szoboszlai for Diogo Jota and Curtis Jones in the 68th minute.

Spurs bring on Wilson Odobert and Richarlison for Solanke and Tel.

Mohamed Salah goal — Liverpool 4-1 Spurs (63rd minute)

Anfield erupts as the Egyptian King breaks his goal slump on the break.

Szoboszlai sets up Salah for his 28th goal of the Premier League season, and he celebrates by taking a fan’s camera and taking a selfie with the crowd.

Mohamed Salah gets his goal on Liverpool's big day as he powers his left-footed effort into the corner of the Tottenham Hotspur goal to make it 4-1 at Anfield.

Spurs subs

Dejan Kulusevski and Pape Sarr enter for Archie Gray and James Maddison at the break.

Halftime — Liverpool 3-1 Tottenham Hotspur

The coronation seems well and truly on.

Penalty shout for Spurs

Mathys Tel is clobbered by Ibrahima Konate’s sliding challenge in the six, but the risky move got just enough of the ball.

VAR agrees.

Cody Gakpo goal — Liverpool 3-1 Spurs (34th minute)

Tottenham Hotspur are basically here for the title party, we guess.

A Liverpool corner ends up near the top of the box for Gakpo, who simply finds space to sling a shot through traffic and past Vicario.

Gakpo makes it 3-1 for Liverpool against Spurs
Spurs find themselves in a two-goal hole in the first half at Anfield as Cody Gakpo finds the bottom corner of the goal to give Liverpool a 3-1 lead.

Alexis Mac Allister goal — Liverpool 2-1 Spurs (24th minute)

A rocket goal from the Argentine.

Archie Gray can’t collect a dangerous pass. Ryan Gravenberch makes it so, and the ball is quickly to the goal scorer and beyond the reach of Guglielmo Vicario.

Mac Allister blasts Liverpool 2-1 up over Spurs
Liverpool flips the match on its head as Alexis Mac Allister blasts Liverpool 3-1 up against Tottenham Hotspur in the first half at Anfield.

Luis Diaz goal — Liverpool 1-1 Tottenham Hotspur (16th minute)

VAR looking at potential Liverpool equalizer...

Luis Diaz slides it over the line, but the flag’s raised and it won’t count.

Or will it?

Dominic Solanke goal — Liverpool 0-1 Spurs (12th minute)

James Maddison’s out-swinging corner is thudded across goal and inside the post by Dominic Solanke.

He slipped away from Luis Diaz and rose above Ryan Gravenberch to make it work. Solid goal.

Solanke heads Spurs in front of Liverpool
Anfield falls silent as the former Liverpool striker Dominic Solanke heads Spurs in front early in the first half.

Could’ve been 1-1 inside of five minutes

Mohamed Salah sails a left-footed shot over the Spurs goal, then Tottenham Hotspur go the other way and Brennan Johnson takes a touch on a terrific cross rather than one-touching it toward goal.

Promise for both attacks into the sixth minute at Anfield.

Slot tugs the heartstrings

Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson start at full back in an ode to years past. Both have started plenty this season, but being on the pitch from the open sure seems a nod to their careers, too.

Spurs midfield in focus

Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall together in the midfield is a fascinating twist to this affair, as Spurs are hoping it’s a pairing that could be in lilywhite together for a long time.

Liverpool lineup

Alisson, Robertson, Konate, Van Dijk, Alexander-Arnold, Gravenberch, Szoboszlai, Mac Allister, Gakpo, Salah, Diaz

Tottenham Hotspur lineup

Vicario, Spence, Danso, Davies, Udogie, Bergvall, Gray, Maddison, Johnson, Solanke, Tel

Liverpool vs Tottenham Hotspur preview — By Joe Prince-Wright

After Arsenal slipped up in midweek and drew with Crystal Palace, Liverpool now just need one more point to win the title with four games to go. Arne Slot’s side have been taking care of business, winning six of their last seven games in the Premier League as everybody expected their league form to dip after they lost in the League Cup final and were knocked out of the Champions League. That didn’t happen as their 1-0 win at Leicester last weekend put them on the brink of the title. Everybody expects Liverpool to seal the deal on Sunday and it will be one big celebration at Anfield as they will equal Manchester United’s record of 20 top-flight titles.

Spurs’ sorry season in the Premier League sees them on 37 points, way below the standards they’re used to as they’re basically guaranteed to finish in the bottom half of the table. Even amid all of the injuries which ravaged his squad this season, Ange Postecoglou is under serious pressure. The Australian coach saw his side lose 2-1 to Nottingham Forest on Monday in a game which summed up Spurs’ season. They dominated play and created numerous chances but weren’t clinical enough in attack and were punished for some sloppy defending. Spurs’ season hinges on the Europa League and they host the first leg of their semifinal against Bodo/Glimt next Thursday.

Liverpool team news, focus

Slot will go with his strongest starting lineup to get the point Liverpool need to seal the title and he will then give plenty of key players a rest in the final weeks of the season. They deserve it. Mohamed Salah probably won’t want a rest as he continues to chase numerous records in terms of goals and assists. Fit-again Alexander-Arnold could start after coming off the bench and scoring the winner at Leicester last weekend and it will be an emotional next few weeks for him as the star right back is expected to join Real Madrid when his Liverpool contract expires this summer.

Tottenham Hotspur team news, focus

Spurs’ injury issues have finally calmed down and for Ange it is now all about making sure his players are in the best possible shape for their Europa League semifinals. There will be pressure on Spurs to not lose all of their remaining Premier League games this season but the truth is they are all-in on the Europa League to win a trophy and qualify for the Champions League next season. Remember: Ange always wins a trophy in his second season, mate. It would be foolish of them to risk big players against Liverpool, with influential center backs Romero and Van de Ven likely to be rested. Spurs are hoping captain Heung-min Son has recovered from his foot injury to play some part ahead of the Europa semifinals.

OUT: Radu Dragusin (torn ACL - out for season) | QUESTIONABLE: Heung-min Son (foot)

Liverpool vs Tottenham Hotspur prediction

This will be a breeze for Liverpool. They will come flying out of the traps and will have things wrapped up by half time. Cue the title celebrations. Liverpool 3-0 Tottenham Hotspur.
