After dropping Simon Mignolet for the huge rivalry match against Manchester United last weekend, it’s not surprise that multiple reports are linking Brendan Rodgers with a move for a new goalkeeper in January.

Mexican international ‘keeper, and a star at the World Cup this summer, Guillermo Ochoa and Chelsea’s second choice stopper Petr Cech are the two names being linked with a move to Anfield.

With Brad Jones looking anything but convincing in Liverpool’s 3-0 defeat to United, either Ochoa or Cech would be a massive upgrade on the Reds’ current two ‘keepers as Mignolet’s confidence is shot after a shaky start to the season.

It seems a little unfair that the Belgian has become the scpaegoat for Liverpool’s poor start to the 2014-15 campaign, but Rodgers has no plans to put him straight back into the team and said that Jones will play in their League Cup quarterfinal away at Bournemouth on Wednesday.

As for the two potential signings, Ochoa would be a very intriguing buy. We all saw at the World Cup how the Malaga man put in sensational displays against Brazil and the Netherlands, but since returning to La Liga he has only played once and wants regular soccer. At the age of 29, Ochoa is about to come into his prime as a goalkeeper and reports i the Metro suggest he could cost as little as $5 million in January. That would be a bargain.

Ochoa seems to be the most likely buy, but reports in the Daily Express continue to suggest Cech, 32, will make the move north as Thibaut Courtois continues to be the undisputed number one ‘keeper for Chelsea. A loan deal is speculated but with Jose Mourinho previously suggesting that Cech is happy to be a back up at Stamford Bridge, this one could be a long shot.

If Liverpool truly has a chance to snap either player up, they should go for it.
