It is the first time Inler was not selected by choice in ten years.

Inler has earned 89 caps for Switzerland, playing in EURO 2008 and two World Cups, captaining the side in 2014 in Brazil. Swiss coach Vladimir Petkovic said Inler’s lack of minutes at Leicester was the reason for his decision.
The 31-year-old moved to Leicester City from Napoli in August and was supposed to be a veteran presence in the midfield to help keep the Foxes up. However, Leicester’s miraculous season and the emergence of N’Golo Kante and Danny Drinkwater has seen Inler stuck on the bench. He has made just five Premier League appearances this season.

While Inler was dropped, 21-year-old Shani Tarashaj received his first call-up to the Swiss senior side. He was signed by Everton in January but loaned back to Grasshoppers for the rest of the season.
Switzerland play Ireland on March 25 before facing Bosnia & Herzegovina on March 29.
