If you had Pepe Reina in your “European star rumored for MLS” pool today, you win!

Napoli goalkeeper Pepe Reina is the latest name to be linked with Major League Soccer, and this time it’s the player’s words doing all the work.

On loan from Liverpool, Reina gave an interview to Spanish football site Diario de la Roja and admitted that he won’t be a Red again any time soon.

“I would like to try to do something different in the future. Maybe America or something like that. My idea is to have three or four good years somewhere and then, after that, go somewhere else for a couple more years. I think I have five or six years left.”

Reina, 31, is enjoying life with coach Rafa Benitez and playing well as Napoli makes a run at second-place AS Roma in Serie A (They beat said nemesis 1-0 this weekend). He’s kept five clean sheets in 20 appearances across Serie A and the Champions League.

MLS has become a decent destination for goalkeepers, with top internationals for Peru, Brazil and Panama plying their trades in the United States this season. Whether Reina considers MLS part of that “three or four good years somewhere” or “then, after that” is another part of the equation altogether.
