LONDON — Liverpool pummeled Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, ringing up a half-dozen goals in a head-spinning 6-3 win over the hosts at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.
Mohamed Salah rewrote the history books for league and club, scoring twice with two assists on a day that the Reds guaranteed they’d stay top for Christmas.
Luis Diaz also scored two goals for Liverpool, while Dominik Szoboszlai had a goal and an assist while Alexis Mac Allister also scored in game that saw Liverpool lead 5-1 in the 61st minute.

Luis Diaz goal — Tottenham 3-6 Liverpool
Unsure anyone wants this to end.
In what will be the last action for both players, Mo Salah sets up Luis Diaz to finish an exchange he drove down the left.
Wow.
Dominic Solanke goal — Tottenham 3-5 Liverpool
It’s not over yet, at least not quite yet.
Brennan Johnson heads a cross back into the thick of the box and Dominic Solanke slides it past Alisson.
Maybe? The slightest maybe, but maybe!
Dejan Kulusevski goal — Tottenham 2-5 Liverpool
This is something special.
Heung-min Son tries to chip Dejan Kulusevski onto Alisson’s doorstep but Virgil van Dijk’s head gets a piece of the pass.
No matter, Dejan Kulusevski changes club and pulls out a side-volley to beat the Liverpool keeper in the 72nd minute.
Salah does make it 5-1! — Tottenham 1-5 Liverpool
This is becoming ridiculous. Liverpool surge forward and Szboszlai squares for Salah to slot home. Every time they come forward Liverpool look like scoring. There is over 30 minutes to go.
Szoboszlai should make it 5-1
Another long ball over the top catches out Spurs as Szoboszlai rounds Forster but slams his shot into the side-netting.
Mohamed Salah gets in on the act! — Tottenham 1-4 Liverpool
Tottenham can’t handle the movement of Gakpo, Diaz and Salah. Spurs can’t clear Gakpo’s cross as four Liverpool players were lining up to finish. Salah eventually does. Game over? Probably.
More of the same in the second half
Liverpool look so dangerous every single time they come forward. Salah whips a cross towards the back post which is just too long for Gakpo. This is so easy for Liverpool. Tottenham’s midfield totally overwhelmed.
Half time: Tottenham 1-3 Liverpool
Here are my thoughts as Liverpool are cruising at the break. But you never know with Spurs...

3 things I want to see in the second half from #THFC, #LFC ⤵️ pic.twitter.com/XC7EucyhHY
Szoboszlai scores right on half time! — Tottenham 1-3 Liverpool
3-1 to Liverpool right on half time! Another long ball forward catches out Tottenham. Salah charges through and sets up Szoboszlai to slot home. Again, way too easy for Liverpool. Tottenham’s hopes of a comeback dealt a severe blow.
Tottenham pull one back through Maddison! — Tottenham 1-2 Liverpool
Tottenham are back in it! James Maddison curls home after Kulusevski and Mac Allister collide. Game on just before half time!
Mac Allister heads home as Liverpool cruise! — Tottenham 0-2 Liverpool
A cross into the box is headed towards goal from Szoboszlai and deflects into the path of Mac Allister. He heads past Forster, who was caught in nomansland and probably should have stayed on his line. Too easy for Liverpool.
Forster denies Diaz down low
Liverpool press high and the ball finds Diaz on the edge of the box. His low shot is arrowing towards the far corner but Forster gets down well and saves.
Luis Diaz heads home Alexander-Arnold’s wonderful cross — Tottenham 0-1 Liverpool
1-0 to Liverpool! Trent Alexander-Arnold with an amazing cross from the right and Luis Diaz heads home. No VAR check on Diaz this year.
Son almost gets in but doesn’t get the decision
Maddison plays a lovely ball to Son and Szoboszlai seems to trip him up with Son is going through. That is a bit lucky from a Liverpool perspective. That looked like a foul on Son.
Salah hits the crossbar!
Mohamed Salah with a ridiculous piece of skill to beat two defenders, then he somehow squeezes through a shot which hits the bar. Liverpool are pressing Tottenham high up the pitch and keep winning it back. Spurs can’t get out.
Kulusevski leads a counter and Sarr’s shot goes wide
Spurs are looking to unleash Kulusevski on the counter attack early and often down their right. He picks out Sarr after a mazy run but the Senegalese midfielder fires just wide. Alisson was scrambling a little but had it covered.
Salah denied by Forster then Szoboszlai’s shot blocked
A ball in from the right finds Salah, who may have just been offside, but his clever flick is saved well by Forster. Szoboszlai then drills a shot on goal but Spurs get in a brilliant block. Liverpool doing all the pressing early on.
Early chance for Salah, then Diaz fires wide
Forster gets a clearance all wrong as he plays it straight to Salah in the penalty box. But Salah drills his shot low and just past the post. Forster gets away with one there. A few moments later Diaz curls one harmlessly wide.
Hello and season greetings from Spurs!
Welcome to Tottenham! It is very festive here in north London. Christmas bangers blaring out and hopefully we will see a few crackers on the pitch today. This promises to be one of the games of the season with neither team looking great at the back in recent weeks and full of attacking talents. What a way to take us into the holiday season. Buckle up!

Tottenham vs Liverpool preview
Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs are back on track as they beat Manchester United 4-3 in the League Cup on Thursday to reach the semifinals. And in the Premier League they thumped Southampton 5-0 last weekend. Son, Maddison and Kulusevski were all on target and Tottenham are extremely tough to stop when they’re at their swashbuckling best. We all know they have big defensive problems injury wise with Radu Dragusin and youngster Archie Gray (playing out of position) expected to start, but Spurs also allow their opponents to create so many chances. Their recent 4-3 home defeat to Chelsea showcased the good and bad of their approach but they’re in touch with the top four.
Liverpool remain top of the Premier League table but that may not be the case by the time they kick off on Sunday. Chelsea are just two points behind them and play earlier on Sunday and although Liverpool have a game in-hand, it seems like those two heavyweights are set to unexpectedly battle it out for the title. Slot’s much-changed side won 2-1 at Southampton in midweek to reach the League Cup semifinals but they have dropped points in each of their last two Premier League games, drawing against Newcastle and Fulham as some defensive issues have cropped up.
