New details emerged about Hope Solo’s arrest in Washington, and definitely not at the right time as the United States’ women--with one of their strongest rosters ever and ranked second in the world--are looking to push for the 2015 World Cup crown in Canada.
Head coach Jill Ellis and players offered their perception of the resurfaced affair, and referred to focusing on the task at hand while entirely supporting Solo, considered by many to be the best goalkeeper in the world.
One of the USWNT’s closest competitors--Germany--were firing on all cylinders earlier on Sunday en route to a 10-0 demolition of the Ivory Coast.

Following the match, Germany head coach Silvia Neid spoke her mind to reporters regarding the Hope Solo controversy.
Per USA Today:“I’m happy that my players do not have the same off-field lifestyle,” Neid said Sunday when asked about an unflattering report by ESPN’s Outside the Lines examining Solo’s arrest on domestic abuse charges last summer.
"(Germany goalkeeper) Nadine Angerer is very focused on the games, not much of a party-goer like I hear Hope is. I have players who are extravagant, intelligent and do have a life outside of soccer. I don’t know what the case is for Hope Solo.”
FOX Sports’ Heather Mitts--a former teammate of Solo’s--revealed the type of relationship players have with the Solo currently, though she notes disagreement with the Seattle Reign netminder in the past.
“This is the closest that I’ve ever seen any team with Hope including all the players,” she said on Fox Sports 1... “And there have been some times where…I would get angry because I just feel like [Solo] was being somewhat selfish. But, you know what, the team has looked past it.”
Apart from this entire matter, one thing is clear: Germany is talented. The Stars and Stripes will have their hands full when, or if, these two nations collide.
