With the 2022 World Cup all but certain to be moved to November and December in order to accommodate the 120-degree summers of host nation Qatar, the 2021 Confederations Cup, which will still be played in the summer of 2021, will not be played in Qatar, FIFA announced on Wednesday.

FIFA secretary general Jerome Valcke said on Wednesday that the 2021 Confederations Cup, which is ordinarily held one year prior to the World Cup, will be played “in an Asian country,” but added that the host nation has not yet been selected.
Valcke also said there will be no compensation paid to club teams for the inconvenience of rescheduling the 2022 World Cup, nor will there be an apology from FIFA.
“There will be no compensation,” Valcke said. “We are doing nothing which destroys football. There is seven years to reorganize football around the world for this World Cup.”

As further fallout of the 2022 World Cup being moved to November and December, the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, which would have been played in January, will be moved to June.
Many of the world’s domestic club leagues will also be forced to alter their 2022 or 2022-23 seasons to make players available for the 2022 World Cup.
