With at least 194 people reportedly killed during Friday’s attacks in Turkey, Fenerbahce has opted to cancel its club friendly against French side Lyon.

“Preparations for the new season today (July 16 2016) were due to take place in our stadium at 21:45,” the statement read. “The Olympique Lyon match was cancelled due to the events on the agenda.”

The two sides were scheduled to meet on Saturday at Sukru Saracoglu Stadium in Istanbul.

Political discontent was said to be the center of last night’s attempt at overthrowing Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan and other government officials. The attack took place in the country’s capital of Ankara and Istanbul as gunfire and explosions were noticeable.
