The boys from ESPN’s Press Pass pooh-poohed the prospects of a U.S. win tonight during their morning appearance along network platforms.
Shaka Hislop (pictured), the former EPL goalkeeper and Trinidad & Tobago international, wonders if the ongoing U.S. lack of creativity in the final third will bite Jurgen Klinsmann’s side? Again.
Steve Nicol, when asked if the United States has the mental makeup to go get a win under tremendous pressure, says he’s just not sure they do. Especially, the former New England Revolution coach says, as Maurice Edu and Clint Dempsey continues to struggle.
And longtime ESPN analyst Tommy Smyth, now a regular on Press Pass, says the United States remains vulnerable to set piece goals and still struggles to hold the ball in the midfield.
Most of that is based on two consecutive World Cup qualifiers away from home, so it could all look very, very different tonight on the better surface, and before the friendlier backdrop of Crew Stadium.
Still … predictions from all?
