The FIFA Club World Cup Finals are set with La Liga side Real Madrid facing Argentine club San Lorenzo this Saturday.
Madrid earned their place in the final with an easy 4-0 win over Mexican side Cruz Azul on Wednesday. Sergio Ramos, Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale and Isco all found the back of the net to help Madrid secure their 21st successive win.
Azul proved to be little competition for the high powered Madrid side that sported Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale. Ramos’ header opened the scoring in the first half and Benzema powered one home before Azul missed a penalty just before the break. In the second stanza it was Bale’s header that made it 3-0 and Isco’s smash that completed the 4-0 throttling. Along the way Madrid looked to be having plenty of fun with Ronaldo attempting a rabona from the run of play but Azul saving.
The Galacticos will face San Lorenzo in Saturday’s final after the Argentine side scored an extra time winner on Wednesday to put them through. Lorenzo’s Pablo Barrientos put the Argentine club ahead in first-half stoppage time with a half-volley. In the second half Auckland equalized through Angel Berlanga, cuing up extra time. Four minutes into the additional 30-minute period substitute Mauro Matos fired home San Lorenzo’s winner to send them to the final.
It’s a long shot but if San Lorenzo win on Saturday they will become the first Argentine side to win the tournament since it began in its current format in 2005.
