Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez is loving life right now as the goalscoring hero of Bayer Leverkusen.

The Mexican international, who signed for Leverkusen from Manchester United in the summer, scored his ninth goal (below video) for the Bundesliga side on Wednesday, a temporary equalizer in what turned out to be a 3-2 UEFA Champions League defeat to Roma, which gave the 27-year-old seven goals scored in Leverkusen’s last five games (all competitions).

In classic Chicharito fashion, it was a first-time finish that somehow managed to beat a flap-tastic Wojciech Szczesny in goal.
Hernandez parlayed his good form for club into solid performances for country, as he scored the opening goal in Mexico’s 3-2 victory over the U.S. national team in the CONCACAF Cup last month. He also scored the opening goal in a 2-2 draw with Argentina in September.

Some might have seen Hernandez’s move to Leverkusen a significant step down from the likes of Manchester United and Real Madrid, where he spent last season on loan, but this season’s mini-renaissance just goes to prove once again that’s not nearly as much about where you play, as long as you play.
Leverkusen, meanwhile, currently find themselves seventh in the Bundesliga, three points behind Schalke for the fourth and final Champions League place in next year’s competition, which is where they finished in the league last season.
