In form striker Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez gave a lengthy interview to Spanish paper AS this week,
The 26-year-old Real Madrid man, on loan from Manchester United, comes across as humble and confident over the course of the transcript, though he admitted he was “more than depressed” while struggling for playing time at points this season.

Hernandez has seven goals for Madrid this season, but four of them have come since April 11 including a brace last weekend and a pivotal goal against Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League.

Yes, but I was very patient and I had a lot of faith. That’s how my life has been; I’ve always gone against the grain. I’ve demonstrated that I am who I pretend to be and thank God, it always works out. I’m not a conformist; if I play five games, I want to play 10, 20... I’ve been through a few quite complicated months. Like I explained in that interview in Mexico.
Were you depressed?
More than depressed, frustrated – because I wanted to help the team. It’s not much fun being in that situation. I didn’t say what I say with any intention. I especially remember my parents and my sister, who came with me on this European adventure. Mi cousin Paola, who is in Tabasco, helped me when things were going badly. I asked myself if I really had the talent to be a player at Real Madrid. And they told me, “Don’t be silly, if you are there it’s because you should be there”. Right now I am happy.
Would it bother you if you weren’t at Madrid next season?
Right now I’m getting to play but I don’t know what will happen tomorrow. Maybe tomorrow it will be announced that I am signing for Madrid or going to another club. I’m in the best club in the world and the last thing on my mind is the future; I’m enjoying this moment.
It’s difficult to think Chicharito won’t move to a location where he can be first choice regardless of injury. After the past season at Real Madrid, and falling out of favor at Old Trafford, European teams will be lining up to get him at a cut rate. Could MLS be in play? Given the chance to return to North America, it’s hard to imagine he’d choose the U.S. over Liga MX.
